LG plans to upgrade L Series II with Knock functionality
12/29/2013 5:17:02 PM

LG announced its premium Knock feature will extend past the LG G2 and onto the L Series II smartphones.

First introduced with the LG G2, Knock allows users to tap on the display twice to turn the smartphone on and off - useful because the power button is located on the back of the device. A global maintenance release will find its way to L Series II users' smartphones sometime in January 2014, according to the company.

LG says that because Knock has been so popular on the LG G2, G Flex curved smartphone, and LG G Pad 8.3 tablet, it wanted to extend availability to as many customers as possible. New L Series II smartphones will ship with Knock pre-installed.

"No one ever thought that a power button needed to be improved until our engineers wondered why they couldn't turn the entire screen into a power button," said Dr. Jong-seok Park, president and CEO of LG electronics' mobile communications.

Essentially, LG is bringing a premium feature to its low-end line of smartphones.
