Toshiba Wristband Activity Monitor with Bluetooth 4.0 now available
1/29/2014 9:22:00 PM

Toshiba has jumped on the wearables bandwagon with a new wristband that monitors fitness and activity.

Appropriately called the Wristband Activity Monitor, it uses Bluetooth 4.0 to sync with a smartphone app and serve up information related to tracked activities. This low-power technology allows the wristband's accelerometer and gyro sensors to have a long life between charges, according to Toshiba.

Speaking of the sensors, Toshiba's wristband use them to categorise your daily actions like resting, walking, running, eating, and then it calculates fitness stats within those categories, including: steps taken, activity intensity, calories consumed, and more.

"Activities are logged by the monitor along with the time data and delivered to a smartphone app via Bluetooth," explained Toshiba. "The smartphone provides a hub for connection to the cloud and uploading to a wide range of services, and the information provides a profile of the user's exercise and a tool for personal healthcare management."
