Nokia pulls Here Maps from iTunes because of iOS 7
12/27/2013 9:09:00 AM
Nokia has decided to remove its Here Maps iPhone application from iTunes claiming that elements of iOS 7 "harm" the "user experience".
The app was originally released to fill the void left by Apple's removal of Google Maps as a hard coded app and replacement by the then buggy Apple Maps service. However, it is Here Maps that has since been labelled buggy, with the Indian Express going as far as saying that in recent times it was unusable. "We tested the app on three Apple devices and it was unusable on all of them," the site says.
It was also the site that first published confirmation that Nokia had withdrawn the app from the Apple App Store. In a statement to the Indian Express, Nokia cited the release of iOS 7 as the problem.
"We have made the decision to remove our Here Maps app from the Apple App Store because recent changes to iOS 7 harm the user experience," the Finnish company said.
"iPhone users can continue to use the mobile web version of Here Maps under m.here.com., offering them core location needs, such as search, routing, orientation, transit information and more, all completely free of charge."
