Animin, the augmented reality pet that brings Tamagotchi into the 21st century

Figure Games has released a real-world digital pet called Animin, that uses augmented reality to bring the toy experience to life.

Animin uses an app for smartphones and tablets to help you feed, give medicine, clean up, and play with your virtual pet. There are a number of mini games to be played, and social networking features so you can compare high scores with friends. Figure Games calls it your "companion and portal to communicate with friends."

Given Animin uses virtual reality, there isn't anything physical to touch. There's a pack of cards that can be purchased at retail stores, with a code to redeem your virtual pet. The augmented reality app then beams your pet onto any surface, and it can grow as you nurture it in life.

Pocket-lint will be live from Toy Fair 2014 in London next week to bring a hands-on look at Animin. Figure Games says it will launch in retail stores sometime during 2014.
