Hands on: LeapFrog LeapPad 2 Custom Edition
1/21/2014 12:47:44 PM

LeapFrog showcased its LeapPad 2 Custom Edition at ToyFair 2014 in Olympia, allowing customisation of the LeapPad 2 tablet launched last year.

The Custom Edition comes with the same specs as the LeapPad 2 so you'll still get the benefits that were introduced with it including a faster processor, higher resolution front and rear cameras, better memory and an improved battery life over the original, but this version also lets you customise it in more than 100 different ways.

Everything runs smoothly, with the device itself turning on quickly and apps running without a problem, but the addition of the customisation stickers make the front of the tablet look bright, colourful and more exciting than before. There are 10 stickers to choose from which are all included with the device itself, and you can then match them with one of the 11 digital wallpapers.

The stickers look easy enough to stick on so it shouldn't be a problem to change over and there are a range of different designs from pink with lady bugs, to green and blue random patterns and we were impressed with the selection. They also have a parental guide for sticking them on to make it easier.

The LeapPad 2 is recommended for children aged 3 to 9 and while it might not be as exciting for them if they already have access to your iPad, it is a sturdy device that feels like it could handle a few drops.

The LeapPad 2 Custom Edition features a 2-megapixel front and rear camera, capable of video recording, along with a 5-inch touchscreen display and 4GB of on-board memory for storage of up to 20,000 images.

There is also an eReader, music player and nine apps including Photo Lab, Art Studio, Pet Pad and LeapFrog Learning songs. Just like the LeapFrog LeapPad 2, the Custom Edition will work with the company's educator-approved library that houses more than 500 games, eBooks and videos.

The LeapFrog LeapPad 2 Custom Edition will cost £69.99.
