Adidas updates Smart Run watch with improved battery life, GPS data export

Adidas released a sizable update for its Smart Run training watch on Tuesday, addressing the complaints voiced by early users.

The update is now available to download on the training watch, adding the ability to export GPS data from runs. It also improves battery life, increases the volume level so you can hear on those windy runs, and adds the ability for a marathon mode that updates information less frequently, at five-second intervals, to improve battery life.

Adida said it was planning further GPS export features and an open API, as well.

"Today, we allow for the simple export of a .gpx file where a workout is recorded with GPS," Simon Drabble, Adidas director for miCoach, told Engadget. "The next step will be to allow platform to platform connectivity for data to be ported from miCoach to other existing communities and vice versa.

"Ultimately, it is no secret that we are targeting an open API in the not too distant future."

The Adidas Smart Run training watch was released in November for $399 to give runners cardio coaching, performance data, heart rate tracking, a music player and GPS capabilities that can be tracked through the companion miCoach website.

Adidas apparently has no plans to slow down with its Smart Run product.
