Ebuyer looks to succeed where Comet failed, considers opening UK high street stores

Online consumer electronics retailer Ebuyer is considering opening high street shops in the UK.

Although Britain's towns and cities have lost Comet, Best Buy, Blockbuster and a majority of Jessops and HMV stores in the last two years, the company's managing director, Stuart Carlisle, believes that there is potential on the high street.

"The high street will by no means die out," he told PCR, the trade magazine for the PC and tech industries. "It will just have to adapt.

"People will still want to buy products in store, it's just clear that the current model is not sustainable."

Carlisle revealed to the magazine that plans to expand Ebuyer.com could include opening its own stores.

"We have considered it," he said. "Once we have found the most effective model for our customer base, we will act upon it.

"Retail has changed significantly over the last five years and so we are always investigating ways to best meet our customers' needs. Whether this is though online, high street or multi-channel retail, the options are there for us to progress."

The UK's Ebuyer.com was started in 1999 and since then has accumulated four million registered customers. It delivers 10,000 products to its customers every day.
